Residence papers now!

Saturday March 27th was a great mobilisation day. Hundreds of migrant citizens and associations promoted a initiatives in different Italian cities. All iniatives presented the same platform.

Migrant citizens’ lives have always been hard but today Bossi-Fini law makes their lives even more difficult and dramatic. They wait for months for residence papers to arrive. This means that they won’t be allowed to health care nor to go back home to visit their relatives and friends. They have to satnd in line night and day in front of police headquarters, they are denied papers on basis of facts occurred maybe ten years ago. Residence papers lasts the time determined in time contracts last (this is to say just few months). Immigration desk personnel is too few in numbers but the government finances the building of detention centres and deportation flights.
Migrants communities and associations promoted initiatives from Gorizia to Turin, in Treviso, Monfalcone, Venice, Verona, Brescia, Bergamo but also in Bologna, Livorno and Catania.

Different groups started net-working to sustain, to reclaim common issues and strengthen the struggle in the name of rights and dignity to all.
Sit-ins, demonstrations, meeting with administrations’ representatives took place in order to ask for real answers on residence papers, their renewals, their length, etc.
