Monfalcone - Hotel Esilio is born
Friday June 10th in Monfalcone (Gorizia) some dozens of people occupied a part of the former Capitaneria di Porto, which has been abandoned for a long time. They gave life to a building that had been forgotten for too long, rooms and common areas were immediately made available. Many of the occupants are asylum seekers, they come from Nigeria, Camerun and they run away from wars, dictatorship that make life unbearable. They reached Italy after long journeys and they were homeless up to today. In their lives they met people that share with them struggles and needs and they together chose to find a solution to their problems in order to realize their dreams, to affirm their right to a digneous life. This is how Hotel Esilio was born: here humanity and sympathy will find home. Monfalcone is just a few miles away from Gradisca where the hugest detention centre in Northern Italy is under construction.
