Project "Melting Pot Europa"

For the promotion of citizenship rights

If social instabillity is a condition that caracterises our lives, the subject on whom its effects are bigger is the immigrant.
The globalization of makets which caracterises our times doesn’t coincide with a real globalization.
An ever growing pression from migratory flows produced by civil wars and by the desire or the will to find better conditions of living, is not matched by politics of control of the migrant workforce, which respond with the militarisation of frontiers and the imposition of restrictions, retention camps, work permits linked to the job and not to basical needs.
Choises of armonization of European laws on immigration, of bilateral agreements between states for the forced repatriation and even the outsourcing in the nation of origin of migrant flows of Temporary Permanence Centers go toward the restriction of global citizenship.
In this European and global framework the project “Melting Pot” wants to be an instrument to promote and enlarge real citizenship practices. Our multilanguage and multimedia website (www.meltingpot.org), deals in deep and complete terms with every issue related to laws on immigration (the regulation of flows, political rights and work).
This legal and informative consulence passes the typical limits of the front office, placing itself, thanks to the website and the satellite, more on the European and the global perspective.
In the same time it’s not only a service, but also a projectual ground on practical communication and democracy.
The first 10 years of the project “Melting Pot Europa”.
Since 1996, the year in which started the project through the 5 language radio front office, the spirit of research and practical and theoretical experimentation has always marked the Melting Pot in the processes of transformation of the migratory phenomenon in Italy and in Europe, never losing the understanding of the deep link between the global dimension of migratory flows and their rooting in well defined local contests.
After the production of the multilanguage radio front-office which was placed on-line in a downloadable audio format, the main evolution has been in 2003, with a new website which has deeply marked the passage from a local radio project toward an innovative communication project on a national and European level which is experimented on the ground of the production of new on-line services.
It was still in 2003 that the radio programs started to be broadcasted on the whole continental Europe thanks to the satelite frequencies of Radio Global.
The introduction of the new website and of the satellite broadcasting coincided with the enlargement of the editorial staff of the project “Melting Pot Europa”.
Two new staffs (in Emila Romagna and in Friuli Venezia Giulia) were added to the historical one in Veneto and, since 2006, a new one was created also in the Marche region.
A lot has changed also in the field of radio broadcasting. From the initial simple translation in 5 languages (albanese, serb- croat, arab, english and french) of the italian broadcast, in 2006 comes to life Radio Melting Pot.
Radio Melting Pot is broadcasted all around Europe, North Africa and the Middle East and is accessible with a simple satellite receiver, a well known mean of communication in the nations of origin of migrants and thus also between the migrants who live in Europe.
A space we offer to the migrant communities in Italy as well as in Europe which, potentially, through the satellite radio offers a lot of potentials yet to test: the networking and the communication between different communities in Europe and between a single community and its country of origin.
