Can an underage child return to Italy?

Answer: We are talking about a very young child, therefore she doesn’t hold her own residence permit she should have her name and her picture on her parents passports and papers. Underage children should usually travel together with at least one of their parents. But the problem is not leaving Italy, it could be returning. Reaching the border without passport and residence papers makes regular entry impossible.
What is then to be done?
The fact is that the child is to leave Italy with her aunt and not with her parents. In order to avoid problems at the borders, the aunt should be irrefutably legitimated to travel with the child. Parents should formally consent this via notarial act and then the same act should formally and temporary entrust the child to the aunt. The act should then be certified at the Italian embassy in Sri Lanka in order to avoid problem in the child homeland. In fact the problem is not only leaving Italy but also regularly entering Sri Lanka.
This should be enough in order to leave Italy.
How to returtn to Italy then?
Since the child should be put on the parents passports, at least one of them should go and fetch her at the airport on her arrival. Only this document will allow her entry. Even if the Italian embassy in Sri Lanka releases a visa, it could then be rejected or officers could state that family rejoining proceedings must be followed. This would make the child’s proceedings start off all over again, cancelling all the time she previously spent in Italy.
It is then clear that the child will be able to enter Italy only with one of her parents who will show the passport and the permit. Of coarse the permit must be valid. In case the permit is about to expire, there’s a problem since police headquarters want to see the children as well, in case she’s not in Italy she risks losing her residence papers. Her entry back in Italy must be planned on basis of the documents expiry date.
