We are here. Amnesty now! National telematic meeting

SIAMO QUI – WE ARE HERE – AQUÍ ESTAMOS – NOUS SOMMES ICI
SANATORIA SUBITO!

Among the various measures issued by the government in order to face the coronavirus emergency, not one has taken into consideration a specific matter, which needs to be urgently considered for the wellness of the whole community.

In Italy, there are 600,000 or more migrants who don’t have a residency permit because of the Italian legislation (from the Bossi-Fini to the Salvini law). They often have to endure unstable or unhealthy housing conditions, living with other people; they cannot access the national health service, they don’t have a general practitioner to turn to if they are sick, and as anybody else they risk to be infected by the coronavirus or to become, unwittingly, infectious.

We are talking about 600,000 people who have been stripped of their fundamental rights, first of all, in this particular situation, the one to healthcare, and that is because of the policies that led to the closure of the borders, which have been decided by governments of every kind.

When facing sickness, we are all the same, and everyone must have the same right to healthcare, and to be able to go out to buy basic commodities without facing the risk of being checked and locked up in a C.P.R. (centres for the repatriation).

While we wait for a radical change in migratory policies, the emergency situation we are living in requires a quick and generalised response: an immediate amnesty that would only require the current presence in Italy.

We sign the appeal and we take part in the initiatives of this campaign!
